Do you need a safety gate that fits an opening between 73cm and 80cm or up to 101cm? Safety 1st Flat Step is a stair gate for children with an extra-slim step bar, to avoid any tripping hazards when the child safety gate is fitted at the top of the stairs. Easy to use and incredibly safe. The double-lock safety release makes it difficult for toddlers 6 months – 2 years old to open the gate (Safety 1st strongly recommend to always keep an eye on the child, since children quickly become more independent. Children should never be left unattended). The wide Safety 1st Flat Step stair gate features an extra wide passage section and opens with one hand. Simply press the buttons on the handle to open the gate and slam or push it to close. Children away from home? Then you can easily leave the stair gate open, thanks to the practical "stay-open" mechanism. In addition to featuring an ergonomic handle, Safety 1st Flat Step is extra wide to be comfortable to cross. Open the safety gate in one or both directions, depending on where the baby gate is mounted. Assembly requires no drilling, but includes a simple push-in fitting for a secure fit. Extend Safety 1st Flat Step with Safety 1st gate extensions specifically designed to fit into larger openings (sold separately). Safety 1st offer 7cm and 14 cm extensions to extend Safety 1st Flat Step up to 101cm. WARNING: Please be aware that one side of the frame will be at an angle when you remove it from the box but this is part of the design. It’s the feature and the benefit that creates the pressure to hold the gate in place. This play closes when the child safety gate is correctly mounted in the door frame.

We already had a gate at the bottom of the stairs but needed one at the top with a flat bar across the bottom to avoid tripping, as our little one has started to crawl. The gate at the bottom is a Munchkin Lindam one, and I initially looked at buying their version for the top of the stairs (with flat bar) but after reading numerous reviews about how difficult it was to install and how the wall cups were different, I decided to go for this one and we wanted to screw the cups on to the wall, rather than using sticky pads as it's more secure and the pads can take paint and plaster off when removed. We got a "used" one from Amazon as it was about £15 cheaper (minus the extender), it initially said the box had been damaged/opened but there were clear signs of use although these were mostly only minor cosmetic like a few scuffs. The cable tie to stop the gate flapping about when you install it had also been removed so I had to use duct tape to secure it while we were putting it up. The cups came with the adhesive pads attached where somebody had obviously stuck them on before sending it back. This wasn't a problem for us as we wanted to screw it on anyway and the pads came off easily but all of this is probably worth noting if you see a cheaper one on Amazon which says only the box has been damaged... It was relatively easy to install although the bottom cups were a bit trickier to screw in because of our skirting board and the configuration at the top of our stairs (one side has square skirting that's even all the way around and the other side is tapered), that also meant that we couldn't get the bar 100% straight at the bottom as it would come over the top step but it is very secure.     This product was perfect. Brought for top of stairs and I'm always paranoid about tripping, especially when carrying the little one.

    The low profile of the bottom rail on this gate wasn't the only selling point either.
    1. It's a press fit so no unsightly holes left in the wall when it comes time to remove it.
    2. The trip hazard is greatly reduced as it's such a low profile bottom rail

    Having recently fitted this gate to the bottom of our stairs, I would say it rates very highly. It's sturdy and easy enough to fit, assuming you don't rush the job. I had to fit the optional 7cm extension and that was fine, apart from a minor issue getting the inserts out so I could fit the extension. The online video is good for confirming you're doing things in the right order.
    The gate can be opened with one hand. It needs a slide-and-lift-up movement, and at first it will likely seem quite stiff. It does need a reasonably strong action, but that ensures children very probably won't manage it. We are in our 60s and my wife and I have no problem opening and locking the gate.
    I like the fact that the gate will stay open if placed at the full 90 deg - any less of an angle and it will self-close; very handy if you're coming up or down stairs - or through a doorway - carrying things. It shows thoughtful design. The gate will open both ways - a stopper low down on each side allows you to have the gate only open one way.
    I picked up on comments that the gate arrived and looked faulty for some. Seems the company responded to this. The gate itself, and side bar, are temporarily held vertically together with a cable tie, and there's an advisory warning label. If you follow the video and position the gate, tighten the fixings a little way, and only then cut the cable tie, you won't notice any issue (the side bar pulls up to the gate as you tighten the fixings).
    The thin bottom bar was a big reason I bought this model, because our previous one had a typically thick bar which I'd occasionally catch with my heal as I stepped down. This one is barely noticeable, even when I deliberately tried to step on it. But more importantly, if you fit yours at the top of the stairs, having a thin bottom bar should prevent any chance of tripping up and falling head long down the stairway!

I can lift and open/close with my right hand easily enough but little hands probably won't be able to open it, which is obviously a good thing!

    Si bien es verdad las instrucciones para montar la puerta son un poco liosas (a mí me costó un poco diferenciar en donde iba qué pieza) cuando te fijas bien es fácil de montar.

    Tuve que comprar dos extensiones distintas para que cubriera el vano de la puerta (se pagan a parte), pero ver que tu hijo que empieza a gatear no se va a caer por la escalera hace que merezca la pena.

    Muy recomendable el hecho de que sea el modelo "flat", ya que es un mini escalón que no se nota.

    La puerta/barrera es una maravilla. Yo elegí la de perfil bajo, es una pasada lo bajo que es, unos 3 mm aprox. Es de buena calidad y el precio 47,99€ está bien para lo que es y lo funcional. En mi caso además tuve que comprar como extra una extensión de 14 cm de longitud y en uno de los puntos de apoyo (en la barandilla de las escaleras) se ensanchaba más el espacio por lo que los 14 cm eran insuficientes, faltandome 1,5 cm que lo complementé con los protectores redondos engomados que venden como accesorio adicional, además estos me ha venido muy bien para apoyar con una de las barras de hierro de la barandilla.

    La puerta tiene dos topes inferiores que puedes poner a tu antojo y sirven para poder abrir hacía dentro o hacia afuera, abrir a ambos lados o no abrir (como segundo bloqueo adicional de la puerta).

    No me gusta que tiene unas instrucciones con gráficos muy pequeños y de mala calidad por lo que en algunos casos cuesta un poco entender las instrucciones. Por eso pongo 4****. Por lo demás todo muy correcto.

    NOTA A TENER EN CUENTA:
    He leído y he visto algún vídeo diciendo que los perfiles de aluminio de la puerta y los de la columna fija no están alineados. Es totalmente normal, de hecho viene en las instrucciones de uno de los gráficos que viene con la puerta que se observa que una vez que cortas la presilla que une puerta con la columna fija no quedan paralelo y según gráfica te pone en el dibujo que una vez vas apretando tuercas/tornillos contra la pared la columna fija y la puerta se alinean y adquiren la tensión y la firmeza que debe tener.

    CONCLUSIÓN:
    Si tienes un niño o una mascota este producto es ideal. Las hay algo más baratas pero esta puerta merece la pena. Es relativamente fácil instalar, en mi caso lo hice con la opción sin atornillar los topes a la pared. Sí dudas de como instalar mira detenidamente los gráficos de las instituciones. Muy recomendable si te faltan un par de centímetros o tres, comprar los topes grandes con extra de engomado.

    Wirkt sehr robust und stabil. Gute Verarbeitung und ansehnlich. Finde Durchgang allerdings etwas eng und die Höhe könnte auch ein paar cm mehr sein. Montage ist eigentlich einfach, allerdings muss man sehr lange herumprobieren, bis alles befriedigend passt und funktioniert. Das öffnen hakt, man muss ganz schön drücken und beim schließen richtig zuknallen, den Handverschluss am Ende runterzudrücken kostet kraft und Wucht, Partnerin genervt. Das ist für ständiges hin und her zeitraubend und nervig. Ständiges verstellen hatte vor und Nachteile, am Ende klappt es irgendwie. Preislich sicherlich nichts zu bemängeln.

    Ottimo prodotto. Fa il suo mestiere ed è robusto. Meccanismo di chiusura a prova di bimbo. L'anta si apre in entrambe le direzioni ed è dotata di fermi per impostare il senso di apertura se se ne desidera uno solo.
    La prolunga (comprata a parte) funziona bene ma va tagliata a misura, necessario seghetto.

    Unico neo: in un punto della parte inferiore del taglio vi è una vistosa smaccatura (0.5 cm di diametro circa) della vernice in cui è saltata. Ho dovuto verniciarlo per non fare vedere il ferro sul fondo. Può succedere, ma non succederebbe se si controllasse prima la merce...
